I evaluate tools all the time, usually software or SAAS tools such as SEO tools, web design tools, programming tools, UI tools, etc. But there is an essential tool that I never talk about, and yet, it’s the most important one I can think of. The trusty laptop.
It’s Christmas season, and lots of people are buying laptops for themselves, their significant others, and their kids. There’s no “right” laptop for every person, but if I had to pick one that is “right” for most people…the one that hits the “sweet spot” most often… it would be the Lenovo Flex 2 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (59418271) Black* with Core i7 CPU, 8GB RAM and a hybrid drive system of 500GB HD + 8GB SSD. And yes, there are reasons I’d recommend this exact configuration.
It Has The COOL Factor
I’ve owned a lot of laptops over the years. I’ve never owned one that made me as happy as my Lenovo Flex 2. I read all the reviews, and my experience with this little beauty isn’t mentioned anywhere that I can see. The Flex 2 not only has the “cool factor” because its screen flips 300 degrees from lap to stand mode and it’s a touchscreen and it has a lighted keyboard that can be toggled on or off and…well I could go on. The laptop not only has that cool factor but it is physically cool. As in – not warm. As in – it won’t heat up your lap. It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen – or felt. It actually stays cool – sometimes feeling a bit chilly on my lap. I’m not sure if that’s because of its hybrid hard drive system that has both an HD and an SSD drive. I think that may be the reason, but honestly, I don’t know for sure. All I do know for sure is that this laptop is always cool – and always QUIET. No revving up as the CPU works harder. No noise. Just quiet. Ahhhhh…..
The Right Configuration Makes A Big Difference
That’s one of the reasons I recommend the configuration above. I would never recommend getting any laptop with less than 6GB of RAM but 8GB is much better. Don’t settle for 4GB … that will just be too slow and aggravating. And don’t go for the 1TB hard drive either because that doesn’t come with the hybrid system and doesn’t include the SSD drive. The 500GB HD + 8GB SSD is what I believe is the reason this thing stays so cool. Feel free to research that before deciding if you want and correct me if I’m wrong, btw. And finally, the Core i7 is just going to give the performance that’s going to make you smile. You can get the 6GB version at Office Depot, but they don’t sell the 8GB version, so order the 8GB version from Amazon instead. You could get the 8GB version from Lenovo.com but it will take much longer to deliver to you than if you got it from Amazon. (I know, crazy, right?)
Skimp On Something Else
This configuration is going to cost somewhere in the $780 range, which isn’t cheap, but it is very much worth it. It’s only about $100 more than most people that use computers for work tend to spend on laptops, and in this case, that $100 is money well spent.
So to wrap up, I love:
- The backlit keyboard that I can toggle between brightly lit, dimly lit, or not lit.
- The 300-degree rotating screen that flips between laptop mode and stand mode.
- The awesome touchscreen.
- The fact that it always stays cool on my lap. Always.
- The fact that it is always pin-drop quiet. Always. No revving sounds. Yay!
- It’s fast and responsive.
If you are thinking about getting a new laptop for Christmas, very few of you would go wrong with this laptop. It’s as good for people playing Facebook games as it is for people working all day long. I’m crazy about this laptop, so I figured I’d let people know about it. I couldn’t be happier with mine.Christmas, laptop, Lenovo Flex 2, touchscreen
